Huon Aquaculture opens new seafood processing facility in Tasmania

FBR Staff Writer Published 07 July 2015

Huon Aquaculture has opened a new Smokehouse and Product Innovation Centre in Parramatta Creek, in the north of Tasmania, creating 70 new jobs.

The move is in line with the company's controlled growth strategy to invest close to $160m in its operations over a period of four years.

The $12m site houses one of the most advanced seafood processing facilities in the world, the company claims.

The 2,500m2 facility is expected to increase the company's production capacity and efficiency, while reducing environmental footprint. It will provide complete segregation between hot and cold smoked processing.

Huon Aquaculture executive director and co-founder Frances Bender said: "The reputation and demand for Tasmanian produce is growing continuously, both within Australia and through international markets.

"This facility is a crucial step in ensuring we are taking the highest quality, innovative products to market, all proudly carrying the Tasmanian brand."

Huon Aquaculture will also upgrade the existing fresh salmon processing facility and open a new office and staff amenities building.
